Yamaha YZF R1 - Model History

1998 - The amazing super-bike hit the market in 1998 available in just two colours. red/white and blue/white. The UK went mad over the blue & white model and it was sold out very quick.

1999 - Other than the slight change in the paintwork, the gear change shaft for better gear changing and the reserve fuel tank capacity was reduced from 5.5 litres to 4.0 litres, the machine was near enough the same. All in all the 1998 was rated a better bike by riders.

2000 - Again another slight change in colour but same sort of machine.

2001 - A brand new limited edition, 2001 Champions Edition model was launched. This limited edition super bike had a special paintwork and was endorsed an aluminum authenticity plate to confirm the bike's limited edition production number.

2002 - The R1 was now also available in silver, but not many changes.

2003 - Black was available.

2004 & 2005 - This monster machine has it all. The underseat exhaust, for the first time ever, Radial brakes and many new features. This model is estimated to produce a massive 180 bhp at the crank.

Here are some customer reviews about their R1's

"Hi, I've had all the R1 models and never come accross a model like the 1998 until the 2004 model. It's fast, it looks amazing, it can handle well, the frames are perfect.... Everything is just right. Well done Yamaha, keep up the good work" - Comments from: S Hunter in West Yorkshire.

"I was being told the GSXR1000 and the CBR900 Fireblade were the best superbikes on the market. Yes, they're good but the YZF R1 is something else. I would NEVER change my bike" - Comments from: J O'Sullivan in London
